Tafuna High School Retrofit
Willis Construction was awarded the Tafuna High School Structural Retrofitting project. This building was condemned by members of the American Samoa Department of Education and PIOA Consulting and Engineering. Columns, beams, and slabs suffered sever structural damages. A Goal was set and a mission to succeed was imminent. Great efforts were put in to a decision to save the building or demolish and rebuild. The decision to safe the building was agreed upon. The specific product that was specified for structural strengthening. Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer was approved for the project. WCC partnered with Horse Construction (the leading Manufacture in the East/Southeast Asia) for materials to fully execute the project. This project is the first in American Samoa and neighboring islands to use CFRP. CFRP has a potential home in the Pacific. It is 2x stronger the regular rebar, it extends the life expectancy of your structures and last longer then regular steel from corrosion caused by sea breeze particles. This project also found a new partner for WCC. PERI Group was part of this mission providing their majestic engineering, planning out our need for a shoring plan for safety. Thanks to PERI's support, WCC is able to operate in full capacity knowing the structure is secured.
